Disclosure: I was given a digital version of this book for review purposes. This review is my own. I have also purchased the book for myself.
I am happy to review this book and offer you the chance to win a copy. Karen has put together 5 amazing designs to wear using the pineapple stitch. All designs in the book are stitched with Universal Yarn, available in your local yarn store.
If you crochet you are most likely aware of the Pineapple stitch. A classic stitch that is used very often for doilies. Perhaps it goes back to the pineapple being a symbol of hospitality and/or wealth. The pineapple stitch is common for items for the home like bedspreads.
The Book
I have reviewed Karen’s other books A Garden Shawls, Coastal Crochet.…I can always tell when an author is also a teacher and Karen is a teacher at many national events. If you have never enjoyed her books I encourage you to pick up Pineapple Passion here. You will not be disappointed in her written pattern, charts and clear explanations in the beginning of the book regarding gauge, substituting yarns, reading a crochet chart and blocking. I really like Karen’s book style, she self publishes her books and knows what crocheters want in the size, feel and look of their books. The size is approx 10×7″ and fits perfectly in your project bag or on a book stand. Every pattern has a chart for clarity or if you prefer a visual pattern vs written. There is a chance to enter to win a copy later in this post.
The Designs
The piece above is the Pineapple Chemise. I love design, it gives coverage and warmth to chest and sleeves but is light and has a decorative body that looks great over a camisole.
Pineapple Dreams is made with Classic Shades Sequin Lite. It moves and sparkles making it great for evening wear. In addition to these three designs there is a skirt…yes a skirt and a cardigan, all beautifully showcasing the pineapple stitch.
My Choice
I have am making Pineapple Express in Raspberry color Linen. I will be working on it at the Crochet Guild of America conference this week. If you see me stop by. With Pineapple Express I made it wider. This was an easy adjustment, looking at the chart and seeing a 14 stitch repeat, I added 28 more Foundation Double Crochet stitches. Easy Peasy.
