Ecliptic Shawl A Garden of Shawls follow up

As I promised when I reviewed Karen Whooley’s new book A Garden of Shawls on March 17th, I have completed one of the shawls in the book. Ecliptic.

After going through my stash I found
that I had 800 yards of Bijou Basin Ranch Shangri La lace in a beautiful Ruby.  It’s Yak and Silk, like air.

I did not have a 3.0 mm hook, imagine that

, so I started with a 2.75mm.  My gauge worked out too small.  I changed up to a 3.25mm, I felt better to error on the larger side.  It started out working up very fast, then the rows got longer, and longer…

Ecliptic did work up very fast, once you have the repeat down it flies.  It was also very easy to throw in my bag and take with me to work on too.

When I finished, the measurements unblocked were what Karen had for blocked so I knew once I blocked it, it would be larger.  That’s ok, I’m not a skinny minny, so the coverage for the arms and “girls” was great.  Above you can see the collage of it blocking. Notice the Alphabet foam blocks. Perfect for blocking and $16.18 at Walmart, in the baby section (not toys)…my finished size is 60″ across by 30″ long down center.

I absolutely LOVE how it came out.  Little Black Dress.. check, Jeans and white T… check, sundress….check.

It was nice to follow directions for a change instead of writing them and Karen’s were perfect.  I can so hear her teaching this shawl in a class…

You can purchase this shawl pattern in Karen Whooley’s book A Garden of Shawls HERE  and she’ll even sign it for you.
